Andrea Hendel MA, LMFT

Founder/Licensed Psychotherapist
I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist for nearly 25 years.  I specialize in trauma treatment and am certified in EMDR Therapy and  Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  I incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS) and yoga principles into my therapy sessions.  I graduated with a degree in psychology and criminal justice, and I worked in corrections before pursuing a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology.  I am a certified yoga instructor (200-hour) and hold certifications in trauma-based yoga and Yoga for First Responders.
I have advanced training in working with Law Enforcement and other first responders, as well as their families, to address daily stress and work-related trauma. I collaborate with several police departments and sheriff’s offices to provide annual wellness checks and train departments using a commissioner-approved Peer Support training.  I volunteer to provide training to officers who are nearing retirement or have recently retired to discuss the challenges they face.  Additionally, I provide training to department academies on preparing for a career in law enforcement and several POST mental health trainings.
I am an EMDRIA-approved Consultant and have specialized training with substance abuse and eating disorders.  As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I provide Individual Therapy and Couples Therapy, and am trained in both Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Levels 1 and 2, and Prepare/Enrich. I have worked in adolescent residential and correctional treatment centers for a significant portion of my career, holding various roles including therapist, manager, clinical director, and program director.
As the owner of Sunrise Wellness, my goal is to meet the needs of our community by providing a safe space for first responders and public service employees to address their ongoing job stress and support their families in navigating these challenging careers.  I also provide training to departments (police, fire, etc) in Peer Support, mental wellness, retirement, and self-care, and collaborate with departments to develop and implement wellness programs and training for employees.
